Hey everyone, Happy Workout Wednesday & welcome to the official JUNGLE FITNESS Orange County Personal Trainer Blog! Today, we’re going to go over quick and easy ways to burn 500 calories over the course of your day.
Calories is the standard unit we look for to lose weight. I need burn this many calories, I can only eat this many calories, calories is the simplest and easiest way to think about losing weight. However, refraining to lose calories by any means of violence and/or any hazardous methods is highly and extremely recommended ;).
Burning 500 calories in a day is not some magical number but doing it day in and day out will mean that you will lose on average 1 pound a week. If you want to lose 10 lbs per month, you’ll have to lose 2-3lbs per week. This means, you’ll have to lose 2-3 times more calories per day, so 1500 calories. While there are many activities that will burn 500 calories at a time most people will find that if you break up your day and burn 75 calories here or 50 calories there it is much easier to reach your goal of burning 500 calories in a day.
Two important points to remember:
1. There are about 3500 calories in one pound of weight.
2. Eating less will trigger your metabolism to slow down. This explains why it is so hard to lose weight just by eating less. That is why it is so important to include exercise as part of any weight loss program
So let’s get started and find ways to burn 500 calories a day without even realizing it. For these examples the average calories burned are based on someone who weighs 150 pounds. Weighing more will increase the calories burned while weighing less will decrease the calories burned. This however makes sense, because being lean already, burning the same calories as a person who is 3x the size of you, would make you even leaner.
Picking up and vacuuming around your house for approximately 30 minutes will result in 150 calories being burned.
Washing your dishes by hand three times a day will result in about 110 calories being burned.
Mowing your lawn for one hour using a walk behind mower will result in 420 calories being burned.
Doing other yard work around your house for just 20 minutes a day will result in almost 140 calories being burned.
Parking your car in the furthest part of the parking lot and then walking into the store and shopping for one hour will use up close to 200 hundred calories.
Cleaning your kitchen floor for a measly 30 minutes a day will burn almost 100 calories.
The point being made is that as you move around and go about your daily activities you will be burning calories and thus losing weight. Combine that with a similar reduction in your caloric intake and you are on your way to losing weight in a healthy way. Eating a double stacker mushroom burger with grilled onions and all your other favorite toppings or eating a chicken Cesar salad with croutons can affect the amount of calories you’re actually losing. Remember to lose more calories than you intake, if not you’ll be gaining weight. If you are work outside of the home as most of us do it becomes much harder to eat right and lose the weight we want to. Try and find creative ways such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator. If the weather is nice outside spend some of your lunch hour walking in a safe environment. Many larger companies offer workout facilities for their employees or discounts at area health clubs. Make sure to take advantage of them.

Everyday is a challenge and at the end of the day you have won. If you gained weight and wanted to gain weight, double win! If you lost weight and wanted to lose weight, double win! Don’t let minor setbacks set you back, getting moving forward and never quit. Your goal can be described as simple as this.
You ——————————————————————————————————– Goal.
As long as you never stop, you will eventually get closer and closer to your goal. Once you stop and think it may be too hard or impossible, you start falling back.
